Japanese stocks up on positive chipmakers

Japanese stocks rose at the end of trading session on Tuesday, supported by positive chipmakers, following in the footsteps of their counterparts on the US Wall Street.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange reported that the Nikkei 225 index ended the session up 1.97%, or 776.25 points, to reach 40,083.30 points, while the broader Topix index closed up 1.10%, or 30.19 points, to close at 2,786.57 points.

Shares of Tokyo Electron, a chip manufacturing equipment manufacturer, rose 11.25%, or 2,740 points, to 27,100 yen, becoming the best performer within the Nikkei index.

Chip testing equipment maker Advantest rose 4.72%, or 439 points, to 9,741 yen, while Renesas Electronics jumped 7%, or 141.50 points, to 2,162.5 yen and Disco Corp jumped 7.53%, or 3,250 points, to 46,420 yen. Nippon Steel fell 1.52%, or 48 points, to 3,110 yen at the close. The US currency was steady at 157.60 yen in morning trading.
