SAR operates new freight train route outside urban area of Al-Ahsa

The Saudi Railways Company (SAR) announced the start of the necessary operational tests to transfer freight train traffic to its new route outside the urban area of ​​Al-Ahsa Governorate, following the completion of the railway line’s readiness after the completion of the work carried out in preparation for transferring train traffic starting from Tuesday, January 28.

The operation of the new route aims to achieve the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services by developing an advanced and sustainable infrastructure that supports the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center, while this project enhances traffic safety in Al-Ahsa Governorate by transferring freight train traffic outside the governorate, which reduces traffic congestion and enhances the flow of traffic, and adds greater flexibility to the movement of freight trains between King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and the dry port in Riyadh, to raise operational efficiency and contribute to the development of transportation and logistics operations, to enhance the quality of services provided and keep pace with the needs of population and economic growth in the Kingdom.

Dr. Bashar bin Khalid Al-Malik, CEO of Saudi Railways Company (SAR), stressed the importance of the project for Al-Ahsa Governorate, as it represents a major step towards improving the quality of life for the residents of Al-Ahsa, by raising traffic safety rates, reducing traffic congestion, and maintaining the quality of roads within the governorate, to complement the aspirations of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which prioritizes improving the quality of life, in addition to the important impact of this path, which is represented in developing a modern and comprehensive infrastructure that contributes to increasing the operational efficiency of trains, linking the regions of the Kingdom, and supporting economic diversification, in order to achieve the aspirations of the wise leadership to build an integrated and sustainable transportation system that supports economic growth and enhances the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center, thanking His Highness the Governor of Al-Ahsa and His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics for following up on the progress of the project until its completion. It is worth noting that “SAR” is working on several diverse projects in Al-Ahsa Governorate, in a step that reflects its commitment to providing integrated solutions that meet the aspirations of the population and support sustainable development.
