The Riyadh Metro, operated by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, began passenger services this morning, marking the launch of three out of its six lines. The first phase includes the Blue Line, running along the Olaya-Al-Bat’ha axis; the Yellow Line, covering King Khalid International Airport Road; and the Purple Line, connecting Abdul Rahman bin Awf Road to Sheikh Hassan bin Hussein bin Ali Road. The launch follows the official inauguration by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on November 27, 2024.
The remaining three lines are set to open in phases. The Red Line, which spans King Abdullah Road, and the Green Line, covering King Abdulaziz Road, will commence operations on December 15, 2024. The Orange Line, running along Madinah Road, is scheduled to launch on January 5, 2025, completing the six-line network.
Stations along the Blue Line—including Ministry of Interior Station, Qasr Al-Hukm Station, and King Fahd Library Station—will open to passengers before the end of 2024. Additional stations on the Purple Line, such as Al-Naseem Station, will also be operational within this timeframe.
Tickets for metro journeys can be purchased via the “Darb” mobile application, available on app stores, or through ticket counters and vending machines at the stations. Passengers can contact the unified call centre at 19933 or visit the Riyadh Metro’s website and social media channels for further information.
This milestone underscores Riyadh’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion. The integrated public transport system, which includes both metro and bus services, aims to provide seamless and reliable connectivity across the city.
