Matarat Holding Company and the National Center for Privatization announced the launch of the request for expression of interest phase for the new Taif International Airport project for interested parties from the private sector, with a public-private partnership model (build, transfer, operate), with a contract extending for 30 years, including the construction period.
The project comes in line with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to enhance the growth of the aviation sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; as the Kingdom seeks, through the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics and the National Strategy for the Aviation Sector, to enhance the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center linking the three continents of the world, and to consolidate the Kingdom’s position to be among the ranks of advanced countries. The airport is located in the city of Taif, 21 km southeast of the current airport, with an initial capacity of up to 2.5 million passengers by 2030.
The scope of the project aims to build, transfer, and operate the new airport, which includes a runway for aircraft with a parallel taxiway extending the entire runway, including exits for rapid exits. The airport includes a fully equipped departure lounge to accommodate the expected demand for the airport, in addition to other facilities such as service buildings and various utility networks, in addition to parking lots and roads leading to the departure lounge to achieve standard operation of the airport. It is worth noting that the airport will contribute to achieving the increasing and expected demand for the airport by 2055 AD, and it is expected to meet the demand related to the Umrah movement with sufficient capacity, in order to consolidate its position to become a viable alternative within the system of multiple airports in the region, which includes: (King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Airport in Medina, and Prince Abdul Mohsen bin Abdulaziz Airport in Yanbu) in addition to achieving economic development in the city of Taif and its neighboring areas, and playing its role within the scope of the national aviation strategy as an institutional airport characterized by high efficiency and high quality that adds to the passenger experience. Airports and the center invited interested investors to view the request for expression of interest document containing project information by visiting the website of the National Center for Privatization, and the application submission phase ends on January 10, 2025 AD at 3 pm, Kingdom time.
