Boeing offers workers improved pay offer to end strike after delayed deliveries

Boeing and the union have agreed to a new negotiating offer to raise wages for workers, ending a seven-week-old strike, and the new proposal will be voted on Monday.

Boeing has been forced to delay deliveries of some aircraft orders, requiring it to pay them compensation.

More than 32,000 Boeing workers, most of them in the Seattle area, walked off the job on Sept. 13 after rejecting a tentative deal, and they rejected another proposal earlier this month, extending the strike.

The union said the new proposal includes a 38 percent overall pay increase over four years, up from a previous offer of 35 percent.

Boeing said that at the end of the contract, the average worker’s wage would be about $119,309, adding, “We encourage all of our employees to learn more about the improved offer and to vote.”

In his first earnings call since taking the top job last week, CEO Kelly Ortberg said the company was “working hard to find a solution that works for the company and meets the needs of our employees.” Hours later, workers rejected a negotiated proposal. Workers have repeatedly demanded higher compensation as the cost of living in Seattle — where tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon have ramped up hiring — has risen in recent years.
