Bandar Al-Khorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, discussed in Milan, Italy, with Stefano Pontecorvo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Italian “Leonardo” company, the localization of the manufacture of helicopter components in the Kingdom, including aircraft structures, propellers, fins, and electronic flight systems.
“Leonardo” is one of the most prominent global companies in the aviation, defense and security sector, and employs more than 53 thousand employees around the world. The company is distinguished by its contribution to important international programs such as: Eurofighter and NH-90, and has large production capabilities in Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, and the United States of America.
The partnership between “Leonardo” and the Kingdom extends for more than 50 years, as the company has provided a wide range of platforms, systems and services, including rescue helicopters, electronic systems, sensors, naval defense, and cyber capabilities.
The Kingdom is focusing on developing the value chain in the aviation sector, by developing supply chains for raw materials such as titanium and aluminum, enhancing maintenance, repair and operation services for aircraft, in addition to manufacturing spare parts for engines and drones, localizing the maintenance of navigation systems, mechanical systems, and aircraft structures, as well as developing satellite capabilities. The Saudi aviation sector is expected to contribute SAR 11.4 billion to the GDP by 2030, as the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources’ visit to Leonardo reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening the local aviation industry and benefiting from global expertise to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
