Quality of Life Program Chief Executive Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Bakr emphasized that the program aims to improve urban standards by designing cities that strike a balance between urban development and the preservation of natural resources.
He noted this is achieved by enhancing the efficiency of energy and water use, reducing pollution, and supporting sustainable transportation, contributing to improved quality of life for residents and ensuring environmental sustainability for future generations.
During the panel discussion “Quality of Life and Urban Standards” at the 12th Gulf Municipal Works Conference currently held in Riyadh, Al-Bakr stressed the importance of regional cooperation.
He noted that the Quality of Life Program seeks to coordinate efforts with Gulf countries through conferences and forums to implement urban standards that consider local and regional conditions, focusing on sustainability through the use of smart technologies and sustainable planning, thereby enhancing the well-being of cities in the region and the quality of life for residents.
Al-Bakr highlighted that sustainability is a key pillar of the program, which focuses on building infrastructure that enables positive lifestyles for residents.
He indicated that the program contributes to achieving 10 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through 127 initiatives, including improving urban design and increasing green spaces, thereby promoting community engagement.
