European shares fall on mixed earnings reports

European shares opened lower on Thursday, heading for their worst monthly performance in a year, weighed down by mixed earnings reports.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index was down 0.6% at 0812 GMT, hitting its lowest in nearly two months.

The index is down 2.72% on the month, and is expected to fall for a second straight month and post its worst monthly performance since October 2023.

The index posted its biggest monthly decline this year in April, falling 1.5%.
