Saudi Minister of Tourism: The Kingdom allocated $100 million to develop skills and train workers in the sector

Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Minister of Tourism, confirmed that the Kingdom has allocated investments to the sector during 2024, including $100 million to develop skills and train workers in the tourism sector at all levels from entry to leadership, and programs dedicated to local guides.

Al-Khateeb explained that Saudi women have achieved a remarkable achievement in the tourism sector, as their participation rate reached 42% in 2024. He indicated that they had more than 50,000 training opportunities.

He added: “The Kingdom’s Vision 2030 highlights the Kingdom’s commitment to ensuring that the travel and tourism sector becomes a major driver of social change.”

According to the definition of the World Tourism Organization, Saudi women recorded a participation rate of 46% in sectors related to the visitor’s journey, and their participation rate in leadership positions in the tourism sector in the Kingdom reached 22%. Al-Khateeb indicated that these numbers reflect the supportive role played by the Kingdom’s government to empower and support Saudi women in all fields.

The World Travel and Tourism Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism in the Kingdom, today launched a new report revealing the devastating impact of the Corona pandemic on the jobs of women and youth in the global travel and tourism sector.
