Indian electric car manufacturer “Word Wizard Innovations and Mobility” said on Friday that it had received a letter of intent to establish a joint venture in Saudi Arabia, which is to establish an assembly plant and another for electric car cells in the Kingdom.
The assembly plant will initially focus on producing two-, three- and four-wheeled electric vehicles, with plans to expand in the future to include the production of electric buses.
While the other plant will focus on manufacturing electric car cells, according to Sky News.
In April, Bandar Alkhorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, said that Saudi Arabia is committed to bringing lithium from abroad to support its ambitions in producing electric car batteries and investing in this sector, noting that attempts to provide these supplies locally are still in the early stages.
Saudi Arabia is currently working to become a hub for manufacturing electric cars.
Alkhorayef said in an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum special meeting at the time: “Lithium is a very important mineral and it happens to be a very important part of the supply chain, especially for batteries.”
Saudi Arabia has begun researching the possibility of extracting lithium from seawater and from salty discharges from its oil fields, in cooperation with Aramco.
