European shares steady ahead of US economic data

European shares were steady on Tuesday, after losses in mining companies erased gains in industrial companies, as investors awaited a series of economic data that could provide clues on the path of monetary policy in the euro zone and the United States.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index was flat, while the German index rose 0.1% after a record high at the end of the previous session.

The industrial sector sub-index advanced, while the mining sub-index fell 0.6%, as non-ferrous metals prices fell under the weight of a strong dollar and demand concerns, following weak manufacturing data in China.
