The Saudi team “Team Falcons” won about $7 million (26 million riyals) for winning the World Cup of Electronic Sports, with one week remaining until the competitions of the largest event in the history of the gaming and electronic sports sector globally, which is being held in its first edition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Team Falcons will receive $7 million (26 million riyals) allocated to the first place winner from the total prize pool of $60 million, in addition to the cup for the largest event in the history of the gaming and electronic sector globally, which the team will be crowned with at the closing ceremony on August 25. The second place will witness fierce competition between Team Liquid and Team T1 to obtain $4 million, which is the financial prize allocated to the runner-up.
In a previous statement, Musaed Al-Dosari, co-founder and chairman of Falcons, explained that the Falcon e-sports team, which participates in more than 18 games out of 22 games in the tournament, has contracts for 170 players with a monthly salary, stressing that without the leadership’s support for the e-sports sector, the sector would not have achieved what it has achieved, extending his thanks to the World Cup for e-sports Foundation and the Saudi Federation for e-sports. Team Falcons was able to secure the title early after obtaining 4160 points, which placed it at the top of the overall ranking table for the World Cup for e-sports with a comfortable margin over its closest competitors. Winning the Call of Duty: Warzone Championship title in the first week, and the Free Fire Championship in the second week, was a major factor in strengthening its lead, as the team obtained 1000 points for each championship. The Esports World Cup system was designed for the first time in the history of the sector to present the challenge mode across different games or what is known as the Cross Gaming point system in a way that rewards the distinctive competitive level, as any team’s participation in the largest number of tournaments does not necessarily mean that it will achieve advanced positions in the overall ranking of the event. The rules stipulate that the team must achieve the title of at least one tournament within the Esports World Cup tournaments in order to be able to obtain the grand prize. The curtain falls on the Esports World Cup and its exciting events that extended over eight weeks of competition, with a huge celebration in a location specially designed for the ceremony, where it rises to the level of the historic event and celebrates the efforts of those who contributed to its success. The closing ceremony will witness the crowning of the winning club with the Esports World Cup title, in addition to presenting a distinctive celebratory atmosphere that varies between fireworks displays, drones, and live music. The tournament comes within the framework of the efforts of the gaming and e-sports sector strategy, by achieving an economic impact by contributing more than 50 billion riyals to the GDP by 2030, creating new job opportunities amounting to more than 39,000 direct and indirect job opportunities in the sector by 2030, and raising the quality of life by improving the experience of players around the world and providing new entertainment opportunities. It is worth noting that the first edition of the World Cup for e-sports will be held during the period from July 2 to August 25, at Boulevard Riyadh City, with the participation of more than 1,500 male and female players, representing 500 elite international clubs, competing in 22 tournaments with cash prizes exceeding $ 62 million, which is the highest total prizes in the history of e-sports.
