EU imposes higher tariffs on Chinese electric cars

The European Union confirmed today that it will impose higher customs duties on Chinese electric car imports, indicating that they benefit “significantly from unfair subsidies” and pose a “threat of economic harm” to electric car producers in the European Union.

The EU said in a statement that the duties would be 38.1% on battery electric vehicle (BEV) producers who did not cooperate in the EU investigation, and a lower 21% duty on automakers in the Asian country that complied but were not “sampled.” “.

A 17.4% tariff was imposed on the main Chinese electric car producer BYD, while Geely imposed a 20% duty. The European Union also imposed a 38.1% tariff on SAIC.
