IEA: Nuclear energy is necessary to achieve climate goals

Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, said on Thursday that nuclear energy is absolutely necessary to achieve the goals of combating climate change globally.

According to Reuters, Birol told reporters before the nuclear energy summit in Brussels, “Without nuclear energy, we will not have a chance to achieve our climate goals on time.”

He added, “Renewable energy sources will play a major role in electricity production, specifically solar energy supported by wind and water energy, but nuclear energy is also required, especially in countries that do not have significant renewable energy potential.”
