The head of Boeing’s commercial aircraft division said on Monday that the company will add more quality checks to the 737 MAX after an Alaska Airlines fuselage separated earlier this month.
According to Reuters, Stan Deal, President of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said in a letter to employees that the company will also send a team to the supplier company (Spirit Aerosystems), which manufactures and installs the part that separated from the door in the accident, with the aim of inspecting and examining the work at Spirit and approval before sending the fuselage to Boeing’s production facilities in Washington state
The new measures from Boeing come after the Federal Aviation Administration on Friday extended a decision to extend the grounding of 171 Boeing Max 9 aircraft indefinitely to conduct new safety checks.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that it will not consider the results and will not determine the safety of the aircraft to allow the resumption of flights until after examining 40 aircraft.
