World Bank: Saudi Arabia achieves 80.8% in assessing the maturity and performance of national statistical systems

The great support and empowerment that the General Authority for Statistics enjoys from leadership has been greatly reflected in the development of statistical work in the Kingdom, and this was represented by the advancement of the ranking of Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Authority for Statistics, in the National Statistical Institutions Performance Evaluation Index (SPI) issued by the World Bank, by 25 places, as it ranked first. In the Gulf, it advanced four places in the same index among the countries of the Group of Twenty (G20), where it came in 15th place after it was ranked 19th in the previous evaluation in 2019. The index measures the performance of official statistical systems in 186 countries around the world.

The General Authority for Statistics in the Kingdom provides accurate and updated statistical data for all sectors of the country, which supports decision makers and policy makers. It also builds and calculates statistical indicators with high quality, which has made it occupy an advanced global rank in this aspect, for example 15th in the G20.

The Kingdom’s performance rate in the National Statistical Systems Maturity and Performance Evaluation Index (SPI) issued by the World Bank reached 17.4% during the year 2023, which is the highest performance among the G20 countries. The Kingdom achieved 80.8% in the national statistical systems maturity and performance index (SPI) in 2023, ahead of 63.4% in the 2019 assessment.

Commenting on this, for his part, Dr. Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Dosari, Chairman of the General Authority for Statistics, explained that the support and empowerment that the Authority received during the last period contributed to achieving strategic transformations in the field of statistical production and technical infrastructure, which had a great impact in strengthening the role Statistics carried out by the Authority, achieving the progress it has made over many official statistical agencies around the world, and contributing to building and calculating indicators and high-quality statistical data that have received praise from international organizations specialized in the statistical field, and have contributed to supporting all sectors of the state with statistical data that support those who take it. Decisions and policy makers, stressing the importance of always striving in cooperation with partners to continue developing statistical production.
