Wall Street opens lower as Treasury yields pressure major ‎corporate stocks

Major stock indices on Wall Street opened lower on Tuesday, as major corporate stocks faced pressure from rising US Treasury bond yields after expectations of an imminent start to cut interest rates receded ahead of important reports on inflation scheduled for later this week.

According to Reuters, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index opened down 21.61 points, or 0.45 percent, to 4,741.93 points, while the Nasdaq Composite index increased 99.64 points, or 0.67 percent, to 14,744.13 points.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 159.46 points, or 0.42%, to 37,523.55 points.
