Tomorrow… Toyota will resume operating its factories in Japan

Toyota Motor Company said that it will restart its car factories in Japan tomorrow, Monday, but due to the impact of the earthquake that struck the country on New Year’s Day, it will decide separately about operations as of January 15.

According to Reuters, with the continued aftershocks following the 7.6-magnitude earthquake that destroyed the western coast of Japan and the presence of many Toyota suppliers and their affiliated companies in the affected areas, the company said in a press statement today, Sunday, that it will use the spare parts found in Stock outside those areas

The company’s president, Koji Sato, said on Friday that the company was seeking to understand the supply chain situation after two suppliers, Aisin and Sumitomo Electric, were damaged by the earthquake.

Industry Minister Ken Saito said that as of Friday, about 80% of the 200 companies with factories in areas affected by the earthquake had resumed production or would resume it soon.

More than 100 people were confirmed dead and more than 200 are still missing after the earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula on the coast northwest of Tokyo.
