Sales of Hyundai and Kia in Europe reach a record level in 2023

Hyundai Motor and its subsidiary Kia said on Thursday that sales of their cars in Europe reached their highest level ever in 2023, thanks to demand for SUVs and electric cars.

According to the Korean Yonhap Agency, Hyundai and Kia sold a total of 1.1 million units in Europe last year, an increase of 4.3% over last year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).

This new number broke the record of 1.06 million units that was recorded 4 years ago. Thus, its European sales exceeded the level of one million units for 3 consecutive years in 2023.

Hyundai saw its sales expand by 3.1% in 2023 compared to the previous year, with Kia sales increasing by 5.4%.

“Hyundai” and “Kia” accounted for 8.6% of the European car market last year, lagging behind the “Volkswagen” group with a share of 25.9%, “Stellantis” with 16.6%, and the “Renault” group with 9.7%. The share of Hyundai and Kia decreased by 0.8 percentage points from the previous year.

Hyundai and Kia ranked fourth for the third year in a row.

Hyundai’s best-selling models include the Kona and Tucson SUVs, as well as the Kona and Ioniq electric cars.

In December, Hyundai and Kia sales in Europe rose by 5.1% year-on-year to reach 77,059 units, with their market share rising by 0.6 percentage points to 7.3%, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.
