King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority Makes Significant Strides in Diverse Environmental Fields in 2023

In 2023, the King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority realized a variety of environmental achievements that go toward meeting the objectives pertaining to the environment in the Saudi Vision 2030, the Saudi Green Initiative, and the comprehensive strategic targets set for royal reserves for the year 2030, over and above the authority’s strategic goals.

These accomplishments are due in no small measure to the involvement of volunteers from local communities in the protection and development of the reserve’s environment, in spreading awareness among community members, restoring biodiversity in natural habitats, and expanding and maintaining the vegetation cover, all of which contribute to achieving environmental sustainability.

Among the authority’s achievements in 2023 is the removal of more than 45,000 tons of waste from the entire reserve, planting a million wild trees in Rawdat Al Khafs, which is located in the southern part of the reserve, expanding the vegetation cover and preserving natural resources, as well as passing the first stages needed to join the International Union for Conservation of Nature Green List.

The authority was awarded the National Award for Voluntary Work, securing first place in the “government entities” category for its innovative initiative “school reserve”. Additionally, the first phase of the protection of wells within the reserve has been successfully completed. This entailed the installation of 1,500 concrete barriers across 28 wells.

Furthermore, the authority was awarded the silver medal in the “Accountability Pioneers” program, in recognition of its endeavor to achieve a complete transition to accrual-based accounting.
