Italian Super Cup in Riyadh… 8 million euros for the competition champion

Today, Riyadh will host the Italian Super Cup final between Inter Milan and Napoli at Awal Park, at the end of the competition’s matches. The two teams seek to win the championship cup and obtain the champion’s prize, which amounts to 8 million euros, while the runner-up will receive 5 million euros.

The total prize money for the tournament reaches 23 million euros, having been tripled over previous editions, of which the Italian Professional League receives 6.8 million euros, and distributes 16.2 million euros to the four participating clubs, of which Lazio and Fiorentina receive 1.6 million euros each for participation. The runner-up also receives 5 million euros, while the champion of the competition earns 8 million euros.

Napoli, which shares the title of champion of the Italian League, defeated Fiorentina in the opening of the competition, while Inter Milan, holder of the past two editions and participating as champion of the Italian Cup, won its match with Lazio.

The tournament will be held with the participation of 4 clubs for the first time, which provides greater financial returns to the Italian League and the four teams, in addition to the organizing body, through television broadcasting, sponsorship contracts, and ticket sales, in addition to financial prizes.

Holding the tournament in the Kingdom is an opportunity for Italian football to raise the level of competition by expanding the participation base and raising the marketing value of the tournament, as the match between Inter Milan and Lazio in the semi-finals of the tournament witnessed a high demand for tickets, and it was announced that all tickets for the final match were sold out.

The Italian League announced on March 13 that the Kingdom will host the Super Cup during four of the next six seasons, with the participation of four clubs instead of the previous tournament system, which was limited to the league and cup champions, starting in 2024.

The Kingdom is hosting this tournament for the fourth time, as the first edition was held in Jeddah, in which Juventus won the title after its victory over AC Milan. The capital hosted the second and third editions in the Kingdom, as Lazio was crowned champion of the second edition after defeating Juventus at the Awal Park stadium. It also hosted King Fahd Sports City, the third edition at the beginning of last year, in which Inter Milan won the title after defeating its traditional rival, AC Milan.

The market value of the four clubs participating in the tournament is about 1.608 billion euros, led by Inter Milan with about 589 million euros (36.5% of the total teams in the tournament), followed by Napoli with a market value of 526 million euros (32.7% of the teams in the tournament), and then Fiorentina with 252 million. One million euros (15.6% of the championship teams), and finally Lazio with a market value of 241 million euros (15% of the championship teams).

By hosting the Italian and Spanish Super Cup competitions for the fourth time, which falls within the Quality of Life Programme, the Kingdom is recording a unique success that is added to the series of international sporting events that it hosts, as part of its efforts to be a global sporting destination and center, and at the same time proving its high capabilities in organizing events.
