Today, Director General of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, warned central banks around the world against rushing to ease their measures aimed at combating inflation, after the US Central Bank announced that it would stabilize interest rates two days ago.
Georgieva told reporters – while she was on a working visit to the Korean capital, Seoul – that “sometimes some countries are in a hurry to declare victory, and then inflation becomes more entrenched and it becomes more difficult to fight it.”
She added in her statements, “Do not rush to jump,” indicating that the battle against inflation has now reached the “last mile,” and advised central banks not to move faster than what the available data allows.
It is noteworthy that the US Federal Reserve (central bank) this week maintained interest rates during the third meeting in a row, giving the clearest indication so far of the end of its strong campaign to raise rates by anticipating a series of interest rate cuts over the next year.
