Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Sunday that his country will never join the OPEC+ group of oil-producing countries as a full member and will instead seek to join as an observer.
According to Reuters, this came in a clarification of statements he issued on Saturday during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, in which he said that Brazil “will participate” in OPEC+.
“Brazil must join OPEC+, it can be an observer,” Lula said on Sunday. He added, “Brazil will never become a full member of OPEC because we do not want to be.” What we want is (to have) an impact.”
