The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits increased more than expected last week, indicating that labor market conditions have continued to improve, which may help the Federal Reserve (the US central bank) in its battle to curb inflation.
According to Reuters, the US Department of Labor said on Thursday that applications submitted for the first time for government unemployment benefits rose by 13,000 to 231,000 applications after adjusting for seasonal factors during the week ending November 11.
Economists had signed 220,000 applications that week.
