Standard & Poor’s, Dow Jones open higher on rate cut bets

The Standard & Poor’s 500 and Dow Jones indices opened higher today, Friday, while Treasury bond yields continued to decline from the previous session after recent weak economic data supported bets of a shift to lowering US interest rates.

According to Reuters, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 19.35 points, or 0.06%, to 34,964.82 points.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index opened up 1.31 points, or 0.03%, to 4,509.55 points. But the Nasdaq Composite Index fell 12.24 points, or 0.09%, to 14,101.44 points at the opening.
