The MoU’s primary objective is to endorse education, training, and qualification certificates for seafarers engaged on ships between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. Aligned with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) of 1978 and its amendments, it aims to regulate training levels, certification issuance, and seafarer responsibilities.

This MoU emphasizes ensuring the competence of officers and seafarers on ships of both countries. Furthermore, it strives to enhance coordination and collaborative efforts between the nations to establish necessary frameworks and regulations for implementing these requirements. Special focus is placed on providing educational and training programs, alongside assessment mechanisms for certifying seafarers from both nations.

This initiative underscores the Saudi government’s commitment to supporting its seafarers through robust educational and training programs, fostering their capabilities in the maritime sector. Moreover, it heralds new opportunities for collaborative efforts and knowledge exchange in the fields of education and qualification.
