Riyadh wins Expo 2030, brings the world together under one ‎roof (with zero carbon emissions)‎

Riyadh succeeded in winning the hosting of the Expo 2030 international exhibition, through the balloting process that took place today in Paris in the presence of member states of the General Exhibition Assembly, which includes 128 countries. This victory, which came after competition with South Korea and Italy, reflects the achievement of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiatives led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The exhibition will be held from the first of October 2030 until the end of March 2031, under the slogan (Era of Change: Together We Shape the Future). The Kingdom said that it has allocated $7.8 billion for the exhibition, which will be held on an area of 6 million square meters north of Riyadh. In its bid, the Kingdom announced that “Expo 2030 Riyadh” would adopt renewable energy with “zero carbon emissions” in order to protect the environment from the effects of climate change, stressing the distinction of this version of the event due to the allocation of high amounts of sustainable resources.

Expo Riyadh is the first exhibition to achieve negative carbon by using clean energy through solar energy, in order to protect the environment from the effects of climate change, which gives an advantage to Riyadh’s bid at the expense of other competitors due to the allocation of high amounts of sustainable resources, in addition to the hosting plans. The exhibition includes turning it into a permanent exhibition, so that after many years people can enjoy it in the Kingdom and learn from it. It is expected that the exhibition will attract 41 million actual visits to the website, and more than one billion visits through the Metaverse platform.

The proposed exhibition site is planned to be a model for sustainable urban development, and the Kingdom has pledged to plant 10 million trees in the Riyadh region in the lead-up to the event. This is part of a larger Saudi campaign to plant 10 billion trees. It will be linked to Riyadh Airport and the city itself through mass transit. The exhibition site itself will extend over an area of 6 million square metres, and will be influenced by traditional Arab gardening techniques and other techniques to mitigate negative climate impacts.‎
