Today, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy, signed five memorandums of understanding between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and a number of African countries: Ethiopia, Senegal, Chad, Nigeria, and Rwanda. These memorandums, which were signed during the Saudi-Arab-African Economic Conference, currently held in the capital, Riyadh, included cooperation in various fields of energy.
The memorandum of understanding that the Kingdom signed with Rwanda also establishes work to implement the initiatives of the oil demand sustainability program, raise the economic and environmental efficiency of gas and oil, focus on innovation and environmental friendliness, enhance integration between the petroleum and petrochemical industries, develop demand for hydrocarbon resources, and achieve Objectives of the “Green Middle East” initiative
The memorandum represents a practical implementation of the “Empowering Africa” initiative, which the Kingdom launched during the Middle East and North Africa Climate Week, which was held in Riyadh last month, and which aims to contribute to helping African countries face the challenges of obtaining reliable and sustainable supplies of energy. At the most affordable costs, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollution, and improving human health and well-being.
In a dialogue session entitled The Energy Path to Building a Sustainable Partnership in the Field of Energy, the Minister explained that the important issue for Africa is access to energy and access to clean and sustainable energy, stressing his understanding of the African pain that has been accumulating for years.
