Forbes: stc Group emerges as pioneering sustainability leader in the Middle East’s telecommunications and information technology sector

stc Group, the digitalization enabler, has been granted the Forbes Middle East Sustainability Leaders Award for its exemplary sustainability efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable practices across four key areas, including climate, society, digitization, and the work future.

The award was presented to Mohammed bin Rashid Abalkhail, Vice President of the Corporate Relations Sector at stc Group, on the sidelines of the Forbes Middle East Sustainability Leaders Summit 2023, which was held in Abu Dhabi in early November.

The award is a recognition of stc commitment to sustainable business practices, which are being implemented across the Group’s various divisions.

The Group’s initiatives have had a positive impact on the environment and the communities in which it operates, from reducing carbon emissions to promoting environmental awareness campaigns.

stc Group believes that sustainability is a fundamental value in dealing with the environment, as well as a vital necessity for doing business.

The Group is also committed to creating a sustainable future for its customers, employees, and the communities it serves.

Other organizations, such as the United Nations Global Compact and the Carbon Disclosure Project, have also appreciated the Group’s sustainability efforts. The Group’s sustainability strategy is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and focuses on three key areas: environmental responsibility, social investment, and governance.

stc Group has made significant progress in many areas of sustainability including: providing 4,348 hours of sustainability training for employees, increasing local content reliance to 38.21%, and engaging 213 small and medium enterprises in procurement processes and awarding contracts for mega projects using local content worth 5 billion riyals. As well as providing over 127,000 training hours through stc Academy.

The Group has incubated around 100 startups through “Inspire U” and supported them with a total of 10 billion riyals and achieved a 52% representation rate for women in the advanced analytics department. Moreover, it has hired employees from 43 different nationalities.

In addition, it has technically enabled 324 non-governmental organizations through the Technical Empowerment Programme, which serves more than 10,000 users in 64 cities. It also has achieved a 100 %-unit analysis rate on corruption risks.

99% of the Group employees have completed training on data protection and privacy, while the Group is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 50% in 2050.
