Bloomberg: Saudi Arabia is active in clean energy studies and ‎projects

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has shown a high interest in studying small modular reactors with the aim of diversifying energy sources and generating clean energy, according to neutral sources. ‏

According to the “Bloomberg” report, the Gulf countries have become the focus of combating climate change in recent months, as the UAE prepares to host the annual United Nations summit that aims to protect the environment and reduce emissions, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the largest oil producer in the Middle East, is also turning Focusing on nuclear energy for domestic use and for export as well. ‏

In this context, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the Saudi Minister of Energy, stated during his speech at the climate conference held in the capital, Riyadh, that Saudi Arabia entered “lately” in the field of nuclear energy and that it intends to study all types and applications of atomic energy generation. The minister added that the Kingdom is beginning to build an experimental nuclear reactor and is seeking assistance from the United States in its aspirations to develop its nuclear program.

Bloomberg adds that while Saudi Arabia and the UAE are working to develop renewable energy sources such as solar energy and carbon emissions extraction systems, the two countries are investing in expanding oil production capacity as well. In this regard, the Saudi Minister of Energy said: There is a reason why we do not completely abandon oil and gas, adding that although the share of gas and oil may diminish, they will remain part of the comprehensive energy system that could witness a doubling of demand by the middle of the current century. . The position of the Saudi Minister was also supported by his Emirati counterpart, Suhail Al Mazrouei, saying that investment in oil and gas, in addition to other resources, shows that Middle Eastern countries are serious about being a reliable supplier of energy to global markets.

The agency quoted Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman as saying that the Kingdom is working to develop a new capacity to capture carbon, and is also exploring geothermal energy in the western regions of the country.
