Lucid Motors, an American electric car manufacturer, today opens its factory inside the Kingdom in King Abdullah Economic City, where the factory will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units by 2024.
Industry officials said that Lucid Motors will likely source the batteries from the Korean company LG Energy Solution Ltd.
In March, LG showcased Lucid vehicles equipped with battery cells at Interbattery 2023, the largest battery exhibition in Korea.
For his part, Peter Rawlinson, CEO of the emerging electric car company Lucid Motors, said that the company’s first foreign factory in the Kingdom is expected to begin limited production of Lucid Air cars this September.
Construction on the AMP-2 plant in King Abdullah Economic City began only a year ago and is still under construction, but Rawlinson said Lucid will begin sending partially assembled vehicles from the United States to the Kingdom facility that will finish the production process.
The executive said, according to the Automotive News website, that the new factory will receive all parts of the Lucid Air from the AMP-1 factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, and will assemble the cars locally.
