WTO notices a recovery in commodity trade during Q2‎

The World Trade Organization said today, Thursday, that global merchandise trade rose between April and June amid strong demand for cars, but nevertheless expressed doubts about achieving a sustainable recovery.

According to “Reuters”, the organization added that its measure of commodity trade rose to 99.1 in May from a reading of 95.6 in the previous year, in light of the emergence of “signs of a shift.” And she added that, despite this, “further upward momentum in the third quarter and beyond may be limited as long as export orders remain weak.”

The WTO’s Commodity Trade Barometer is composed of aggregate data and is designed to anticipate turning points and measure the momentum of global trade growth rather than provide a specific short-term forecast.
