STC Group sets 4 priorities for addressing the climate change framework‎

STC Group, the enabler of digital transformation in the region, renewed  ‎its environmental obligations to its customers and the communities in ‎which it operates, by reducing pollution, visual impacts and noise levels, ‎stressing its four priorities for addressing the climate change framework, ‎namely improving the group’s performance, developing environmentally ‎friendly products and solutions, managing climate-related risks and ‎financial impacts, and demonstrating leadership in the field of climate.‎

According to the Sustainability Report issued by the Group for the year ‎‎2022, improving performance comes at the top of its priorities with the ‎intention of enhancing the continuity and quality of information, ‎ensuring the fulfilment of carbon reduction commitments, providing the ‎necessary foundations for improvement, and conducting a system ‎analysis.‎

In this context, the group has launched 3 main programs in order to ‎achieve this goal, namely the “Enduring Climate Responsibility” program, ‎the “Scope 1 Emissions Management” program (direct carbon emissions), ‎and the “Scope 2 Emissions Management” program (indirect carbon ‎emissions).‎

The data shows that the group achieved tangible progress in this field, ‎with a decrease in total greenhouse gas emissions (scope 1 and scope 2) ‎to 389,506 tons last year, compared to 450,046 tons in 2020, an ‎estimated decrease of 13.5% in two years.‎

The second priority of STC Group, in the context of addressing climate ‎change, by developing environmentally friendly products and solutions, ‎aims to reduce climate impacts from the materials, products and services ‎used or provided by the Group and its value chain, according to that, the ‎group has adopted 3 basic programmes, which are “preferred value ‎chain”, “sustainable customers” and “participatory supply chain”, as the ‎activities of the three programs show great effectiveness in reducing ‎pollution and reducing the side effects of the group affecting the ‎environment and climate.‎

The fourth priority for STC Group, the demonstrate leadership in the field ‎of climate, with the aim of enabling the group and supply chain partners ‎to influence climate action on the local and global levels through the ‎internal and external empowerment program. in this context, the group ‎adopts integrated strategies to expand green technology and integrate it ‎into its various operational activities, which include reliance on ‎renewable energy sources such as solar energy, business management ‎systems and solutions, And systems and solutions for business ‎management and telephone systems, in addition to environmentally ‎friendly infrastructure technologies, which encourages and motivates its ‎partners and suppliers to pay attention to environmental considerations ‎to increase their business with the group.‎

STC Group has adopted a number of initiatives since 2019; to improve ‎energy efficiency in all its sites and operational processes, it started with ‎the energy efficiency initiative in the group’s buildings and ‎transportation fleet, the energy improvement initiative for data centres, ‎and the energy efficiency initiative for tower sites. By 2027, the group ‎aims to reduce Scope 1 emissions by 50%. In 2030, the group aims to ‎reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 47% from the 2019 baseline.‎

According to the environmental policy statement, stc Group is ‎committed to further developing its environmental performance by ‎launching programs and initiatives that reduce the environmental ‎impacts of its operations. to contribute to achieving the United Nations ‎goals for development and sustainability.‎

Based on the group’s awareness of the climate change risk, its ‎environmental policies have set a number of standards that govern the ‎work of its employees, suppliers and partners. to manage the ‎environmental impacts of its operations and conducting the necessary ‎training for personnel to enable them to understand and enforce ‎environmental management.‎

The group’s environmental policy set a number of commitments. The ‎most prominent is the enforcement of all environmental laws and ‎legislations, and reduction of environmental impacts resulting from the ‎group’s products, services and operational networks, as well as ‎continuing to modernize and develop the group’s environmental ‎management system, reducing energy consumption and raising its ‎efficiency, as well as working to reduce waste related to operational ‎processes, and raising awareness of the importance of protecting the ‎environment, and environmental sustainability.‎
