Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., the second largest construction company in South Korea, said on Tuesday that it had signed a contract worth $145 million for a continuous high-voltage electric transmission line project in Saudi Arabia.
According to the Korean Yonhap Agency, under the contract, Hyundai will build 207 km of the ultra-high-voltage continuous electric transmission line – high voltage (525 kV) out of 605 km between the city of Neum and the city of Yanbu.
Hyundai stated that it will also build about 450 towers to transmit electric power as part of the project, which is scheduled to be completed by July 2027.
Hyundai explained that this project comes with a turnkey contract that includes the implementation of the entire project, including design, procurement and construction, which indicates a re-establishment of the company’s capabilities in both global technology and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC).
An official in the company said that the deal comes at a time when the company is implementing 16 huge and large-scale projects in Saudi Arabia in a stable manner and will successfully build an electric power transmission line to contribute to the expansion of the energy network for Saudi Arabia.
Hyundai has completed a total of 33 electric power transmission line projects since it started the first project in Saudi Arabia in 1976.
