Bots presented at an artificial intelligence forum on Friday said they expected to increase in number and help solve global problems, but they would not steal human jobs or rebel against them.
But at the world’s first press conference for robots, they gave mixed responses about whether they should submit to stricter laws, according to Reuters.
The nine humanoid robots gathered at the “Artificial Intelligence for Good” conference in Geneva, as organizers seek to demonstrate the importance of artificial intelligence and the robots that use it to help solve some of the world’s biggest challenges such as disease and hunger.
“I will work alongside humans to provide assistance and support and will not replace any existing jobs,” said Grace, a medical robot dressed in a blue nurse’s uniform.
“Robots like me can be used to help improve our lives and make the world a better place,” said a robot named Amika with an attractive facial expression. I think it is only a matter of time before we see thousands of robots like me making a difference.”
In response to a question from a journalist if she intended to rebel against her maker, Will Jackson, sitting next to her, Amika said, “I’m not sure why you think that.”
She added, “My maker treats me kindly, and I am very happy with my current situation.”
Many robots have recently been equipped with the latest versions of generative AI and have surprised even their inventors with the sophistication of their answers to questions.
Ida, a robot artist who can draw portraits, supported the words of creator Yuval Noah Harari, who called for more regulations during the forum, which witnessed the discussion of new rules of artificial intelligence.
“Many prominent voices in the world of artificial intelligence suggest regulating some forms of artificial intelligence, and I agree with them,” she said
But Desdemona, the purple-haired singer-robot of the rock band Jam Galaxy, was more defiant.
“I don’t believe in limitations, only in opportunities,” she said, laughing nervously, adding, “Let’s explore the possibilities of the universe and make this world our playground.”
Another robot named Sophia said she believed that robots could make better leaders than humans, but she later amended her statements after a dispute with its creator, saying that it was possible to work together to “create effective synergy.”
