ACWA Power, along with Haji Abdullah Alireza and Partners Co. Ltd., and Almoayyed Contracting Group Company, have awarded a contract to carry out the engineering, construction and procurement works for the Rabigh 4 independent water desalination plant project located on the coast of The Red Sea in the western region
The alliance includes three companies, namely; “Power China” company, “Sebeco 3” company, and “Wetico” company, where the contract was signed at a total cost estimated at about 2.54 billion riyals (677 million dollars), with a production capacity of 600 thousand cubic meters of desalinated water per day. Where it is scheduled to serve the regions of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah. It is expected that the financial closure of the project will take place during the third quarter of 2023
Today, ACWA Power is overseeing the operation of the Rabigh 3 independent desalinated water production plant in the same region, as it is the first desalination plant in terms of volume in the private sector. With the addition of the Rabigh 4 plant, ACWA Power is expected to double its desalinated water production capacity in the region to 1.2 million cubic meters per day, in addition to 6.8 million cubic meters per day across the company’s portfolio of desalination projects, making it; The largest private company producing desalinated water in the world
Commenting on this, Mohamed Abunayyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACWA Power, expressed his pride in the position that ACWA Power has achieved as the largest private company producing desalinated water in the world, working to provide water at the lowest possible cost, and using the most innovative solutions.
He said: “We are pleased with the progress we have achieved in the project, which will ensure the provision of a steady supply of desalinated water to the residents and visitors of the regions of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, especially during the peak periods that coincide with the advent of the month of Ramadan and the Hajj season. We feel proud of the tangible success we have achieved in this year’s Hajj season, by securing more than two-thirds of the water demand in the holy sites. I am grateful to all of our colleagues who have spent time away from their families so that 2.5 million people can perform Hajj with ease and ease.”
He added: “Through this project, we aim to support the local content by increasing the rates of localization in the new jobs that will be occupied by Saudi youth who have completed the training period at the Energy and Water Academy within the talent development program that ACWA Power has supervised over the past decade in the fields of development, operation, and maintenance.”

The water purchase agreement for the project was signed earlier this year by the Saudi Water Partnerships Company, after selecting the ACWA Power consortium, Haji Abdullah Alireza and Partners Ltd., and Almoayyed Contracting Group. ..
It should be noted that ACWA Power today owns 16 desalination plants in four countries, 10 of which are located in the Kingdom.
