GCA President Leads Saudi Arabia’s Delegation at SAI20 Engagement Group of G20

The President of the General Court of Audit (GCA), Dr. Hussam bin Abdulmohsen Al-Angari, heads the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) delegation in the Engagement Group meeting of SAI20, taking place in Goa, India from 12th to 14th June 2023. The GCA participates as a representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, discussions were held on ways to enhance collaboration between Supreme Audit Institutions, and to activate their role in monitoring the implementation of principles such as efficiency, effectiveness, transparency, and accountability. The focus was on tracking the progress towards achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in areas of significance such as “the Blue Economy” and “Responsible Artificial Intelligence”. Furthermore, the importance of employing artificial intelligence tools and techniques in the audit operations conducted by these institutions was emphasized to achieve more effective and efficient results. Additionally, the exchange of experiences among SAIs to address challenges and threats facing the blue economy was emphasized. Furthermore, the meeting also focused on activating the role of supreme audit institutions in assisting governments to evaluate and ensure the effective implementation of relevant policies and regulations. These efforts aim to promote sustainable development and protect coastal and marine environments.

The heads of the participating delegations emphasized the commitment of supreme audit institutions in the G20 member states to develop visions and strategic directions. These efforts aim to adopt best professional practices, strengthen the principles of accountability and good governance, and activate the role of supreme institutions as strategic partners with the governments of member states within the G20. This commitment by the G20 is a response to international changes.

In his speech during the meeting, Dr. Al-Angari emphasized the significance of the participation group, which focuses on discussing the crucial role played by supreme audit institutions worldwide in ensuring transparency and accountability. He highlighted the experience of GCA in adapting to technological advancements in audit, aligning with the Kingdom Vision 2030. This includes the creation of several automated systems and platforms, and one of the most significant platforms is the e-Audit System “Shamel.”

He also pointed out that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has taken important steps to ensure the sustainable use of its own natural resources. This includes the adoption of the National Environment Strategy and the adoption of a National Water Strategy. Additionally, there has been effective monitoring of the compliance of relevant entities with these strategies and policies.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Dr. Al-Angari engaged in a number of meetings and bilateral discussions with the heads of the participating delegations. The purpose of these interactions was to explore ways of enhancing cooperation and exchanging experiences on issues of common interest.
