Xinhua: Tesla to build a factory in Shanghai to manufacture ‎Megapack batteries

The New China News Agency (Xinhua) said today, Sunday, that Tesla will build a factory in Shanghai to manufacture Megapack energy storage batteries.

According to “Reuters”, a report by the agency from a signing ceremony in Shanghai stated that the car manufacturer owned by billionaire Elon Musk will start construction of the factory in the third quarter, with production starting in the second quarter of 2024.

The new plant will be in addition to an existing huge factory in Shanghai for the manufacture of electric cars and will initially produce 10,000 megabag units per year, equivalent to about 40 gigawatt-hours of stored energy, for sale worldwide, according to Xinhua.

Tesla owns a factory for the production of Megapack batteries in California, and it can produce 10,000 units annually.
