Nikkei index rose for 3rd session on higher energy stocks

The Japanese Nikkei index rose for the third consecutive session today, Tuesday, supported by stocks of companies related to the energy sector, which tracked the rise of their counterparts in the United States overnight, but the gains were small, as investors struggled to extract signs of market movement.

According to “Reuters”, the Nikkei index closed up 0.35 percent, at 28,287.42 points, while the broader Topix index increased 0.25 percent, to 2,022.76 points.

The index of energy exploration companies rose 1.36 percent, after jumping 5 percent in the previous session.

The utility sector index rose 1.33 percent, with shares of Tokyo Electric Power Holdings rising 1.45 percent and Kansai Electric Power rising 2.24 percent.

The shipping companies index jumped 3.12 percent, recording the best performance among the 33 sub-indices on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
