Total global dividend payments increased by 8.4% in 2022, a record level, with the support of energy companies and large banks.
According to data from asset management company Janus Henderson Investors, the total dividend payout last year was $1.56 trillion.
The dividend survey tracks 1,200 companies worldwide, according to CNBC.
However, the report expected a partial slowdown in distributions in the current year.
The report predicted that some regions would be subject to recession in the current year, and that corporate cash flows would be under pressure due to low levels of demand and high debt servicing costs.
Therefore, expectations indicate a slowdown in dividend growth at 2.3% in 2023, according to the dollar exchange rate.
In the United States only, the total value of distributions reached levels of $ 574.2 billion, an increase of 7.6% compared to 2021 levels.
France, Germany, Japan and Australia were among the countries that witnessed record levels of local currency distributions, amid an increase of 11.2% in Europe.
In emerging markets, including China and Brazil, distributions increased by 13.1%.
