‎”Saudi Downtown”, “NCWM” sign MOU to manage waste in 12 ‎projects in the Kingdom

Saudi DownTown Company, one of the companies wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund, signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Center for Waste Management (NCWM) during the “Investment Forum in the Waste Management Sector” held in Riyadh, in the presence of His Excellency Eng. Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture. The memorandum was signed by Mr. Nayef bin Saleh Al-Hamdan, member of the Board of Directors and Acting CEO of Down Town Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Abdullah bin Faisal Al-Sibai, CEO of the National Center for Waste Management (NCWM).

Through this memorandum, the two parties seek to cooperate with regard to programs and initiatives related to waste management, training, raising the level of performance of technical personnel, ensuring adherence to legislation and controls related to waste management, and enhancing joint work to improve services provided to residents and visitors of the projects of the Saudi Downtown Company in 12 cities in the Kingdom.

On this occasion, Naif Al-Hamdan said: “Saudi Downtown  aims, through this cooperation with the National Center for Waste Management (NCWM), to discuss ways of cooperation in developing integrated plans and programs to contribute to achieving sustainability, optimal use of resources and enhancing the quality of life through the company’s projects in 12 cities.”

This cooperation with the National Center for Waste Management (NCWM) comes within the framework of the strategy of the Saudi Down Town Company for environmental, social and corporate governance practices, whose objectives include achieving sustainability, enhancing community participation and interaction, and achieving efficiency in the use of resources. The company will work to achieve these goals by adopting Governance best practices, effective cooperation with all relevant parties, policy formulation, use of modern technologies and awareness raising.

It is worth noting that the Saudi DownTown will develop and establish destinations and urban centers with a sustainable economic and social impact in 12 cities in the Kingdom, namely Medina, Al-Ahsa, Al-Khobar, Buraydah, Taif, Arar, Hail, Tabuk, Dumat Al-Jandal, Jizan, Najran, and Al-Baha. The projects will be built on a total area of more than 10 million square meters and will contribute to stimulating economic movement and improving the quality of life in these cities, in addition to creating more new options and opportunities in various sectors including: shopping, entertainment, hospitality, tourism, office space, housing, and others.
