The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Huawei Saudi Arabia signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of communications and information technology.
The memorandum was signed by the Undersecretary of Communications and Infrastructure at the Ministry, Eng. Bassam Al-Bassam, and the CEO of “Huawei Tech Investment Saudi Arabia Limited,” Eric Yang, in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Investment, Eng. Khaled Al-Falih, the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Haitham Al-Ohali, and the President of Huawei. According to the memorandum, the two sides will cooperate in several areas, foremost of which is achieving a “10 Gbps” society in order to enhance the superior infrastructure and achieve digital transformation in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and enhance the competitiveness of the information and communication technology infrastructure in the Kingdom at the global level. Huawei will rely on its great experience to help the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology implement the feasibility study and design the systems necessary to achieve the “10Gbps” society, as the initial trial version with a capacity of 10 gigabits will be launched in 2023.
Small companies play a fundamental role in the development of the Saudi economy, as the thriving ecosystem of startup companies contributes to promoting innovations and achieving achievements in various sectors, and Huawei will cooperate with the Ministry to develop digital entrepreneurship in a number of areas, including smart cities, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, gaming and financial technology, e-commerce, blockchain, and jointly promoting the Huawei Entrepreneurs Program (HUAWEI CLOUD), which aims to enable small and medium-sized enterprises to enhance their cloud capabilities.
According to the memorandum, the ministry will provide the necessary support to Huawei in order to build a cloud computing area in the Kingdom, while Huawei will work to strengthen partnership with data center service providers in the Kingdom.
In light of the Saudi efforts to achieve digital transformation in government institutions, Huawei will cooperate with the Ministry to set infrastructure standards for government networks in order to provide services to various government institutions.
