The General Authority for Statistics revealed that the operating revenues of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) amounted to 1.26 trillion riyals during the year 2021 AD, an increase of 25% compared to the year 2020 AD, and the operating expenses amounted to 659.5 billion riyals, an increase of 33%, and the compensation of workers in small and medium enterprises amounted to 155.8 billion riyals, an increase of 19%, compared to 2020.
The most important statistics of medium-sized establishments for the year 2021 AD
The authority stated that compared to 2020, the operating revenues in medium-sized establishments “50-249” workers increased by 16%, with a value of 562.6 billion riyals, and this is due to revenues from manufacturing activities, wholesale and retail trade activities, and construction activities, in addition to arts and entertainment activities’ growth, and accommodation and food activities significantly, recovering from the effects of the Corona pandemic, as it increased by 132% and 45%, respectively.
With regard to the operating expenses side, the expenditures of medium-sized establishments increased by 28%, compared to the previous year, with a value of 275 billion riyals, also led by the expenditures of the manufacturing activity, wholesale and retail trade activity, and construction activity.
The most important statistics of small-sized establishments for the year 2021 AD
The Authority added that the operating revenues of small-sized establishments (6-49 employees) increased by 35% compared to 2020, largely affected by revenues from wholesale and retail trade activities, construction activities, and manufacturing activities, which recorded the highest value.
Revenues compared to other economic activities, as the total operating revenues of small enterprises, amounted to 337.4 billion riyals during the year 2021 AD. As for the most interactive economic activities in achieving revenues compared to the previous year, transportation and storage activities increased by 76%, followed by accommodation activities by 55%, then wholesale and retail trade activity by 44%.
As for the operating expenses in small-sized establishments, they amounted to 178.4 billion riyals in 2021 AD, and the volume of workers’ compensation amounted to 43 billion riyals, an increase of 45% and 20%, respectively, compared to 2020 AD.
The most important statistics of micro-enterprises for the year 2021 AD
Total operating revenues in micro-enterprises (1-5 employees) amounted to 365.4 billion riyals, an increase of 31%, compared to 2020 AD. This is due to the increase in revenues from wholesale and retail trade activity, indicating that operating expenses in micro-enterprises increased by 30%. % compared to the previous year, when total operating expenses amounted to 205.8 billion riyals, as wholesale and retail trade activities recorded the largest amount of spending among micro-enterprises.
