Saudi Minister of Energy: We achieved important progress in green ‎energy transition

Today, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, the Green Saudi Initiative 2022 forum opened on the sidelines of the COP27 climate summit.

The Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, said at the opening session of the forum: “We have made important progress in the transition to green energy,” enumerating the achievements made so far.

He stressed that Saudi Arabia is committed to reaching zero neutrality by 2060. This came during the launch of the second edition of the Saudi Green Initiative forum in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh.

He continued, “Every year we will become greener as we go forward.”

He also mentioned the Kingdom’s climate goal to reach net zero carbon emissions in 2060, adding that this depends on technology, and the Kingdom hopes to achieve this sooner.

He also referred to the goal that clean energy would constitute 50% of the energy mix in the Kingdom.

The Minister of Energy said that the matter will move from ambition to actions, and “we are ready and have a commitment in the Middle East and the Kingdom through green initiatives.”

He also referred to renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia, with 13 additional projects in the sector with a capacity of 11.4 gigawatts, which will reduce about 21 million tons of emissions annually.

He said that Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy program has won international awards, and next year plans to develop 10 additional renewable energy projects will be completed.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said on Wednesday that the energy sector is most affected by cyber attacks, and these attacks are considered a weapon without an army or marches, but they have a great impact.

The Saudi minister said at the International Cyber ​​Security Forum in Riyadh today that he is always cautious, stressing that things should not be taken for granted.
