Saudi Arabia plans to launch knowledge center for circular ‎carbon economy ‎

Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy, announced during the activities of the second day of the Green Saudi Initiative Forum, held on the sidelines of the twenty-seventh session of the United Nations Climate Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, the launch of three new projects that will enhance the efforts that The Kingdom is making efforts to advance climate action locally and regionally.

The first project includes the Kingdom’s intention to launch a knowledge center for the circular carbon economy at the beginning of 2023 to form an important platform that supports regional cooperation efforts in the field of developing technologies for the circular carbon economy through the exchange of information, best practices and results, enabling the countries of the region to implement their nationally determined contributions in achieving the ambitious goals set by the Green Middle East Initiative.

The second project includes the establishment of a regional center to accelerate the pace of emissions reduction, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia “ESCWA” with the aim of enhancing opportunities for regional cooperation in support of efforts to reduce emissions and accelerating the adoption of the circular carbon economy model, as the center is a strong platform that allows Countries in the region can express their voices and actively participate in global climate dialogues, and set a clear roadmap for reducing emissions.

The third project includes hosting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in agreement with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Climate Week in the Middle East and North Africa 2023, in a period preceding the 28th edition of the “cop28” climate conference, with the participation of stakeholders regional and global interest with the aim of exploring challenges and opportunities, reviewing innovative solutions, and promoting climate action.
