US ride-hailing company Uber has pledged to go fully electric by 2030.

According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, this means that drivers without electric cars will not be allowed to use the platform pointing out that the company aims to be fully electric in the United States, Canada and Europe.

“While we’re still several years away from that target date, Uber is already finding ways to make it easier for its users to order rides in an electric car through the Comfort Electric service”, he said.

Previously, this service was only offered to users in California, but Uber recently expanded it to 24 cities across the United States and in Vancouver, Canada.

Comfort Electric differentiates itself from the current Uber Green service by hosting all-electric vehicles only on the ride-sharing app, while the latter offers electric and hybrid vehicles. The Comfort Electric option is still a bit pricier, but Uber says prices will drop once more electric car drivers start using the app. “The more electric cars we have in a particular market, the less waiting time will be, and prices can go down as well,” Khosrowshahi said.
