Aramco, ATHATH ink MOU for furniture recycling

Saudi Aramco and the Cooperative Society in the Eastern Province “ATHATH” signed on Monday a memorandum of understanding aimed at raising awareness of the importance of contributing to community service, preserving blessings by recycling used furniture, and supporting beneficiaries from charitable organizations, non-profit organizations and individuals with limited income.

The MOU was signed by the Secretary-General of ATHATH and Board Member, His Excellency Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Dhuwaila, and the Executive Director of Housing Neighborhood Services at Saudi Aramco, Fahd bin Khalifa Al-Dhubaib.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Supreme Vice President of the Human Resources and Support Services Sector, Nabil bin Abdullah Al-Jamea, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Furth” Cooperative Society, Abdullah bin Abdullatif Al-Fozan, at the company’s headquarters in Dhahran.

On this occasion, Nabil Al-Jamea said: “partnership with the cooperative association “ATHATH” represents an aspect of effective communication with community institutions to promote empowerment initiatives and capacity building, as Saudi Aramco participates in many social responsibility projects and citizenship initiatives aimed at supporting the environment and the communities in which it operates. This MOU contributes to launching a larger and more effective in-kind donation platform to benefit from the company’s used furniture in offices and residential communities, within the framework of Saudi Aramco’s applications of the principles of circular economy in the value chain through the use of company resources in a more sustainable manner, reducing waste and maximum reuse of materials remanufacture and recycle.”

The MOU includes the receipt of used furniture from the company and recycling it in accordance with the activities and systems of ATHATH, which works with a specialized team in several steps, including ensuring the quality of the furniture when it is received, and working to provide the appropriate channels to benefit from it.
