The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) revealed a decline in assets to SR1.828 trillion at the end of January, a decrease of SR23.3 billion, or 1.3% compared to what it was in January of 2021, which was SR1.851 trillion.
According to the Central Bank Monthly Statistical Bulletin for January 2022, the assets decreased by about SR20.8 billion riyals, by 1.1% compared to their levels in December of 2021, which was SR1.848 trillion.
According to the bulletin, the assets decreased during January 2022 compared to the same month of 2021 as a result of a 14.7% decrease in deposits with banks abroad. It amounted to SR253.6 billion, compared to SR297.2 billion in 2021. Investments in foreign securities increased to SR1135.1 billion, or 1% for 2021 which was SR1124 billion, while other assets decreased by 6.6%.
The Saudi Central Bank assets consist of foreign exchange, gold, cash in Vault, deposits with banks abroad, and investments in foreign securities, in addition to other miscellaneous assets.
