Wadi Al-Dawasir Farmers Begin Reaping Citron Adam’s Apple

As soon as the winter season begins, the people and farmers of Wadi Al Dawasir Governorate, begin to harvest their crops from different citrus fruits, with the most important of which is the fruit, which is the most important fruit of the season.

During the season, since antiquity, the people used to gift their fruits to relatives, friends, and neighbors, and it is considered among the prevailing fruit attached to the cultural legacies, in the province, which has persisted until now, but this custom has begun to fade away a little bit nowadays, after some went to sell part of their crop.

In the market, price for a box containing between 10-15 fruits of the CITRON APAM’S Apple, does not exceed SR25, however, the price varies according to the size of the fruit, while some, who are the majority, still adhere to that heritage of gifting the fruit.

Such a “citron” or citric fruit, which the elderly people in Wadi Al-Dawasir call “Uttruj” with other names, across the Levant, Egypt and Iraq.

It is similar to the Lemon fruit, but it is much larger than it, and its color tends to orange-golden and greenish, and it has a distinctive and aromatic smell

It is offered for eating after removing its peel from its flesh, and then separating it from its lemon, to be eaten later in the form of slices.

It has so many health benefits for humans, confirmed by nutritionists, indicating that it is a good source of vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin C, as one of a citrus, rich in fiber, anti-bacterial and a powerful anti-cold and flu symptoms.
