Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) have achieved a remarkable increase in the number of transshipment containers, by 11.85%, and a total of about 442,800 TEUs, in addition to an increase in the number of handling containers of export and import, during December 2021, with a rate of 3.28%, and a total of more than 841 thousand TEUs, compared to the same period, in 2020.
Mawani also recorded an increase in the number of livestock handling by 101.57%, with a total of about 350 thousand heads of imported livestock, and an increase in the total foodstuffs by 3.76% or more than 1.8 million tons.
Saudi ports also set during December other operational record indicators, most notably the increase in number of ships by 6.21%, or 1,163 ships, and the increase in the number of passengers by 58%, or 76 thousand passengers.
On the other hand, Saudi ports experienced a decrease in the volume of tons of general cargo by 3.54% or a total of about 25.4 million tons, as well as a decrease in the number of cars by 15.62%, or a total of 75,000 cars.
It is noteworthy that “Mawani” seeks, in accordance with its new development strategy recently launched, to achieve a qualitative leap in the process of maritime transport and logistics services in the Kingdom, to enhance its approach to developing a sustainable and prosperous maritime sector.
As well as consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center, and enabling it achieving its economic and social ambitions, in a way that contributes to activating the objectives of the maritime transport sector, and in line with the national strategy for transport and logistics, and supports the programs of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
